Summary0016546: AoE Abilities do not spread if initial target disrupts.
DescriptionReporter: aralion1

First screenshot, I target Gorbane, a low disrupt target in the middle of large group. It succeeds, but several around him defend against Transfer Magic.

Second screenshot, I target Chubbychin, a high block target. Nothing happens - no defense check for those around him or AP drain balls flying.

Based on AoR behavior and tooltip, the tactic should have the effect of making Drain Magic AOE, rather than requiring two separate defense checks to process.

I'm not 100% convinced this is actually a bug. Similar happens on my Magus, if the initial target blocks or disrupts the ability, often it won't have the opportunity to spread to those around them.

That being said - I'll keep this tagged until someone with more ability knowledge can confirm.

This is the same for other targeted AoE abilities. If target disrupts, it doesn't hit at all. While if it hits target everyone in range gets their own defense check. This works the same for Sorc's Shattered Shadows/Black Horror.

Pretty sure this is intended, though it would be nice if it was changed so that either it still affects nearby targets if main target defends (preferred alternative), or only main target gets a defense check, all other targets take damage if main target takes damage (might be too strong). There is already precedent in abilities having partial effect through defense checks (for example BG's Crimson Death applies crit debuff even if damage is defended against), so it should be possible to detach the aoe effect from the damage to main target.

I have tested this several times to confirm, immediately using Law of Age and Rainlord on the same blocking target to check AOE behavior. These spells in particular, still go through. It seems like some spells have this behavior and others don't - Engineer AOE projectiles do fail on defense.

Also to add a couple of additional notes:
- This behavior is also found when the initial target blocks.
- You can also see in ticket 16809 that if a dot is applied to a target successfully, Gloom of Night in this case, it also runs into the same issue if blocked or disrupted when it "ticks" on the initial target.
- This also impacts Black Horror and Shadow Knives.
