Summary0019458: [Apothecary] Method to force crits on apothecary sessions
DescriptionReporter: Caduceus42

Greetings,

It is possible to guarantee crits on apothecary sessions using the following method:

1. Fill all slots of the main inventory.

2. Ensure one slot in the main inventory holds the type of potion one wants to produce from a crit, like "Potent Draught of Balming". There needs to be room in this stack for at least one more potion of the same type (so it cannot be a full stack).

3a. When the next apothecary session is finished to make a Draught of Balming, if it IS NOT a crit, there will be no room in the main inventory and the apothecary session will produce an error message and no crafting ingredients will be consumed and no potion will be created.

3b. When the next apothecary session is finished to make a Draught of Balming, and it IS a crit, there WILL be room for it in the main inventory (we ensured that in step 2), and the session will be successful and no error message will be visible.

4. When an error message is produced in step 3a, it seems to activate a cooldown for the next crafting session, however this cooldown can be circumvented by changing the contents of one's inventory, for example by selling and rebuying a stack of whatever was in one's main inventory.

Using this method it is possible to ensure crits from scarce resources like the Master Apothecary's Ampoule (Very Rare level 200 vial). My suspicion is that this same method can work to ensure crits for Talisman Making.

If more elaboration or video evidence is needed, I can provide this.

I quickly tested apoth ; it leaves an error message finishing by "3002254 RESULT_MAX_BAG" when unsucessful, but crits are indeed correctly added to inventory using your method.

The gain in very marginal however, considering the best you can produce is 2 potions per ampoule, and result is "only" 10% better than lv 38 blue potio, not a very big deal anyway, especially considering the limit to ampoules number per week, but it's still a bug exploit... :p

It does not work with talismans ; message says the usual "you created potent talisman of x", but actually ressources are lost and no talisman is created anywhere (not even in the "overflow" space on bottom of inventory).

I don't think it's a minor exploit, if you consider what prices those potions go for.

Since a "confirmation request" label was added to this post, I will make a recording of the bug later today and post it here.

This is a video of me replicating the bug I have described in the OP, of course for testing purposes.

To talk you through the video:

1. First you see my main inventory is completely filled up, with a partially filled stack of "Potent Draught of Healing". The result of this is that when the apothecary session produces a "Draught of Healing", there will be no room. But if the result is a "Potent Draught of Healing", there will be room.

2. The first apothecary session is a crit and produces a "Potent Draught of Healing".

3. On my second attempt the apothecary session is not a crit, and an error message is produced, because there is no room for the "Draught of Healing" that should have been produced. Note that no ingredients and materials have been consumed.

4. After this error message, it is impossible to complete another apothecary session. You see me pressing the "Brew!" button many times. To make it possible to continue brewing, I only have to sell/rebuy one item from a random vendor.

5. On the next apothecary session, another "Potent Draught of Healing" is produced.

6. The next session is not a crit and produces another error message, and I circumvent it again by selling/rebuying an item, and try another session.

7. The last session produces another "Potent Draught of Healing", and this is when the video ends.

During this test, three "Potent Draught of Healing" have been created, and zero "Draught of Healing".

PS: According to another poster, it is not necessary to sell/rebuy, but swapping around items in the inventory is enough to continue making potions after the error message is produced.

Can't craft dyes anymore. Add fixer doesn't work and Brew-button is not active (greyed out)
