Summary | 0022922: The server has closed your connection; you have been disconnected.
Description | As of 2-3 patches ago I've started being disconnected one to seven times each time I first login, usually a few minutes apart. As of the latest patch it's gone insane. Some play sessions I'm disconnected randomly through the session, non-stop, with the longest time online being about 9 minutes. Troubleshooting Performed Game: • Complete uninstall and reinstall of game. • Using latest launcher. • All character profiles are individual (none shared). • Tested all addons individually, no specific one causing issue, issue occurs with no addons installed at all. • Using Simple Fonts. • Game cache is deleted after each play session. • Have ran the Repair option in the launcher multiple times and had it re-download at least eight files each time. Windows and PC Hardware: • All launcher and client executables have been given admin permission. • Specific rules created for game/all executables in Windows Defender/Firewall to allow all connections on all ports using all protocols. • All anti-virus and anti-malware software have custom rules set to not block or interfere with any files in the WAR directory. • Full anti-virus and anti-malware scans have been performed, both via local software and through reputable online virus scan websites. • System analysis and troubleshooting software (for hardware, ex: MemTest86 Pro, and Windows, ex: System Mechanic) has been ran and no detectable problems located. • Connection analysis software (ex: WireShark) has been ran repeatedly and is not detecting any issues beyond the WAR server abruptly closing the connection. • Game Mode is enabled. • X-Box Game Bar is disabled. • Discord overlay is disabled. Discord running or closed does not seem to have an impact. • Steam overlay is not active for this game as it's not being ran through Steam. • DEP is enabled for essential programs only. • All hardware drivers are up to date. • All Windows patches are up to date. • Both 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth' and 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth' have been ran repeatedly. • 'SFC /scannow' has been ran repeatedly. • Windows power scheme is set to Performance. • All Windows notifications are silenced when a game is active. • Windows DNS cache has been purged. • Have attempted going through a VPN and connected to various servers worldwide to approach the WAR server from different connecting points, no change. • All PC hardware is less than one year old and surpasses the requirements for WAR by lightyears. Internet and Local Connection Hardware: • Connected to a gigabit fiber connection. • Connected through an ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 6GHz Quad-band WiFi 6E Extendable Gaming Router, latest firmware, gaming • PC given highest priority, all ports/protocols for WAR active with full passthrough, no restrictions allowed for any WAR connection. • All systems/devices connected on hardline ethernet (shielded Cat8 for close connections, shielded Cat7 for distances over 12ft). No gaming over wi-fi. • No issues found or being reported by my ISP. What's missing? I'm not experiencing stability or connection issues in any other program or game that I have, whether locally, via Steam, via Epic, or via any other third party management software. Is this a known issue with the WAR server currently, along with vault items going missing or duplicating? I've seen people in various chats in-game asking if others are being disconnected as well, and thus far none of us can come up with something new to try/test. As a side note, the dungeon Hunter's Vale seems especially disconnect prone. I've not had a full run there without someone being disconnected at least once, though running Gunbad or Bastion Stair doesn't cause this (at least not noticeably/predictively)

Can you share a screenshot of the last packets seen in your Wireshark trace, making sure to filter it so only packets to/from 51.91.215.12 are shown? It would help to see if you're seeing FIN or RST from the game server.
Here is a screenshot of the last packets for 51.91.215.12 from a fresh disconnect. |
|
And from the other direction. |
|
Probably would have helped to show it as the linear back and forth. |
|
Could you select line (6104) and check what it says? Black usually indicates some kind of packet error or other anomaly, the fact that occurs right before the disconnect is slightly suspicious.
Done. |

Any update on this? The issue calmed down for about a week or so, but now is back to constantly disconnecting me every few minutes. Can my account on the server be checked/rebuilt?
Though I suspected this would have no effect, installed new network card and drivers. No change. Any help?
Sorry for the late response. Have you tried this through a vpn? If not could you email me the wireshark dump to maxhayman@returnofreckoning.com please.
Max, thank you for the response. Yes, I typically play with a VPN and have tested with and without the VPN active. There doesn't seem to be any difference in the random server disconnects. I get at minimum one disconnect a few minutes after every login. On good days that's it and I can continue to play fine until I need to relog or change characters, then I will have at least one server disconnect again. On bad days it's a constant stream of disconnects every few minutes with no apparent in-game trigger. I created a new Wireshark tracking file over the past weekend while connected through a VPN and e-mailed it to you. I was disconnected several times while playing, each a few minutes apart. Reviewing the log it was showing a number of duplicate acknowledgements and retransmission requests. Please let me know if there's any other information you need to assist.
Another update and request for help. I did a new install of Windows, which is both a fresh install and an upgrade from Windows 10 to 11. Disabled IP6 in network setting to avoid any particular stack priority issue. Added a registry edit to give the WAR executables high CPU priority on a permanent basis. Uninstalled all network hardware and drivers in Windows and let Windows re-detect and install basic drivers. When the latter had no effect, re-updated to the latest drivers again. Opened several command prompts and ran constant pings to google.com, microsoft.com, returnofreckoning.com, and the game server's IP, while playing RoR and checked on each server disconnect to find no interruption or even an alteration in speed. I'm getting to the end of my rope with this. Trying to play an MMO when you can only stay connected for a few mins at a time is a trial of futility. Particularly since I'm having no noticeable issues with any other game I run. Is there anything else to try? Can I have someone respond?
