Summary | 0017906: Movement animation issues since the last patch
Description | Reporter: PandaOrc Since the last patch people move in a weird way. Player character/AI mob positioning and facing of a body does not match the pathing. The character going forward is sometimes turned backwards and it looks like the character is backpaddling really fast or the character can go forward while being sideways and animation of movement is that he should go north west but instead he goes north. I have tried the following: - Re-checked all the files - Deleted Cache folder - Tried playing with highest and lowest graphic settings - Tried both fullscreen and windowed mode - Reinstalled the game - Used another peron's game client on my PC - Disabled all my AMD GPU settings like advanced sync, anti lag etc. - Changed graphic resolution CPU is Ryzen 3900x and GPU is 5700xt. I have never had these issues before the last patch. Please see the following video for examples: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/764398181

Commenter: PandaOrc I need to use Radeon Chill option to limit my idle FPS to 60 or I have a lot of animation issues. If I let FPS go wild to 250+ which is without any control then I have more issues. Problem is that when I lower idle FPS to 60 via Chill option most of the animation issues are gone; however, the game runs a lot worse than before. So yea, this fps patch was actually worse for me :/ |

Commenter: MaxHayman Can you highlight bits in the video? I skimmed through and didn't seen anything significant. |
Commenter: PandaOrc 00:06:10 - check npc moving backwards and also a WP player in front of me moving extremely weird. 00:09:00 - see SW player on my right moving forward 00:24:28 - you will briefly see on the side of my screen a DOK backpaddling extremely fast (he wa walking the other direction but my game reported that player as being faced the other way) These are just some of the examples. If you want I can do another video in IC where people just move so you can see all the funky stuff happening since last patch. |
Commenter: PandaOrc > > > Can you highlight bits in the video? I skimmed through and didn't seen anything significant. I have streamed a bit in IC just so it is more visible (last video had chill on so animations were not completely messed up): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/768095741 This issue is extremely hard on me when I go into RvR which is one of the reasons I haven't been as active lately. It seems that when enemies appear on my screen (when they load in the distance as normal) is when the animations are extremely messed up. I hope there is a fix for this or a way to revert just my client back to the old stage since it worked a lot better for me before the FPS unlock. Chill setting in my Radeon software solves some issues but performance impact is insane. Frames are being skipped every now and then and the game is clunkier with the option on. |
Commenter: Solganis Can confirm. My Lion pet start to follow me in backward and all sort of strange animations (sideway, etc.) Character models of the players too. It's probably started with this patch to .exe, but I am not 100% sure. Literally watch any stream while someone RvR or doing stuff. |
Commenter: PandaOrc The worst thing is that once I enter combat due to messed up animations I can not even see players using abilities, their cast times etc. so there is no time to react until the ability hits you :/ |

Commenter: Solganis > > > The worst thing is that once I enter combat due to messed up animations I can not even see players using abilities, their cast times etc. so there is no time to react until the ability hits you :/ Yeah, it's pretty fucked up and strange why nobody question it there or on the forum. I am pretty new to the game (3 weeks) but can already see the difference. Where is all the long time players reports? |

They released this patch last Wednesday Evening if I recall correctly and people do not report all the issues I think. I was having a chat in IC after the patch and few people said in the chat that they experience the same issue but when I went to Bugtracker I saw that no one reported anything shrugs. It might be due to GPU and drivers. Which GPU and driver version do you have? I have 5700XT and my driver version is 20.9.2 |

Maybe it's due to them uncapping FPS with this .exe patch or something. Like, animations was not intended to be run at 100+ FPS. I have 1080 Ti, 451.85 |

Commenter: MaxHayman When running the non 64-bit version does the issue still occur? |
Commenter: PandaOrc @MaxHayman Issue occurs on both 32 and 64 bit version. |
Commenter: saupreusse can confirm. same thing happening to me. the players are moving but they face in the wrong direction. this becomes very apparent when mounted. it does not occur always, as far as i can tell it happens at random times and i cant really put my finger on what causes it. |
Commenter: saupreusse https://youtu.be/my5eZecscbA The IB and the SM are both facing in another direction than they're bodies are moving. |
Commenter: PandaOrc @MaxHayman Any progress or questions regarding this? |
Commenter: MaxHayman Can someone message me on discord MaxHayman#8344 |
Commenter: Solganis I contacted Max one day ago. We probably gonna get some updates soon. |
Commenter: xpander69 Happens here also. Didn't notice the bugreport before and didn't really bother reporting lol. I think it happened with the fps limit removal patch indeed. Which is sad, cause i love the uncapped framerates :( Seems limiting fps to 100 seems to fix that... need more testing though.. im using linux so i used libstrangle to limit the fps. running `strangle 100 wine ./RoRLauncher.exe `- seems to fix that issue for me so people on windows can you try to use some fps limiters to cap framerates to 100 to test it also edit: maybe its possible to only cap animations to 100 and the rest of the game be uncapped? |

Commenter: Symbelmyne I expirienced same issues today afternoon after installing new CPU (Ryzen 5 5600x) https://youtu.be/-w6f5Ga_yb4 You can see in left top corner fps are above 100, npcs are moving sideways, also I played scenario and other players mounted were moving facing other directions. Before switching CPU today morning all RoR was fine, no issues at all, very often 100+ fps. I listened to Xpander advice to limit fps to 100 and issue was gone. |
Commenter: PandaOrc @MaxHayman any update on this? I have tried the following: Different settings - no change Reinstalled the game - no change Installed the game in a different folder - no change Downloaded someone else's client - no change Limited FPS via Radeon Chill - animation issue is gone but game tops at 40fps when I have no one around me and becomes a slideshow in any form of gameplay that involves other people. 32 bit for some unknown reason runs like a potato as well but the animation issue is not there. Tested memory, gpu and cpu for stability - all good Prior to fps unlock patch I had no issues whatsoever and I was able to stream the game in big zerg fights with no issues (game was smooth). Any advice on what else to try is welcomed. |
Commenter: Symbelmyne I agree limiting fps is not a solution, sideway/backward walk of models is gone but game is not playable, everything moves like slideshow. I tried this video settings: + radeon settings: Enhanced Sync Enabled Looks like animation = high quality and distance draw = max gauge somehow fix that bug. @PandaOrc can you try this? |
Commenter: PandaOrc I tried that already and many other settings combinations - no joy unfortunately |
Commenter: xpander69 try some other fps limiters.. like iirc rivatuner had one do not use any vsync limiters, just the pure fps cap. |
Commenter: PandaOrc > > > try some other fps limiters.. like iirc rivatuner had one > do not use any vsync limiters, just the pure fps cap. Tried that. Vsync, amd lock etc. make animations visible but performance tanks and is unplayable. |
Commenter: Symbelmyne Any chance it`s bug related to AMD cards? Since I bought 2070s (nvidia) my game is capped at 99 again and I dont have animation bug anymore. https://youtu.be/nul6uF8QqtA |
Commenter: PandaOrc > > > Any chance it`s bug related to AMD cards? Since I bought 2070s (nvidia) my game is capped at 99 again and I dont have animation bug anymore. > > https://youtu.be/nul6uF8QqtA I don't think so. Solganis in this thread has Nvidia 1080TI. |
Commenter: xpander69 I have Nvidia GTX 1080Ti as well and capping framerate to 100 works for me without issues. |
Commenter: Symbelmyne I found another interesting fact about this bug. I played a bit with Nvidia + gsync monitor. Without Gsync enabled FPS run like crazy 200+ and models movement bug exists. But after enabling Gsync in Nvidia panel FPS is capped to 99 and no bug at all. So to my understanding said bug exists when GPU doesnt sync with Monitor. Or maybe because gsync automatically cap fps to 99. I dont have amd card anymore, but if someone could test freesync enabling and disabling and bring results. |
