Summary0009130: Unholy Empowerment bug
DescriptionReporter: TheSockPuppet

Greetings, i was recently playing on my zealot right after i logged off from my magus when i noticed that 4 stacks of the unholy empowerment buff (from pink horror) where still attached on the zealot and not only that, they were there permanently. However there was no obvious damage increase. Then i noticed that my zealot was able to try to cast his abilities from further away (and failling, having a similar hang-up as the magus when he is trying to cast an ability very near his maximum range) when he was in the "sweet spot" that would be allowed if he indeed had the actual buff on him.

I then discovered that to trigger this "false" range increase i had to log in my magus, get stacks from the pink horror, then log into an alt, if i then logged off from the alt, he would lose the stacks. Using this newfound knowledge i decided to see what would happen if the buffed character was a melee one. First, i logged into my buffed chosen and then i found a neutral npc, went to the maximum possible range his abilities allowed him to be, logged off, and then i logged on with him again, now without the buff and without moving a single step to see if he was still in attack range (He wasn't)

(Did my best for the images to have the same angle, nurglings somehow changed size between the logs for some reason)

My next experiment was to see if you cast instant abilites at the false range. I found out three things then, one, fortunately the instant abilites don't actually work at this range, but their animation still goes through, ignoring the GCD, second, the tooltip of the ability changes to reflect the "false" range and three, while the buff remains when you change a zone, the false range and the changed tooltip does not.

I then tried the opposite, using the blue horror buff. As expected the buff was up, the range on the tooltip was reduced and i was able to still cast my abilities at their normal range, even when they were "red".

Trying the same thing with the flamer....i found out that i wasn't able to cast my abilities on the run.

I finally decided to create a new magus, level him to level 3, get him the pink horror, and see what happens when i log him with the 4 stacks from the main magus (On the way i also found out that the buff from the level 3 magus was able to "buff" my other characters as well). Turns out that nothing much happened, the extra 4 stacks did not increase the damage or the range in any way and they disappeared when i recast the pink horror.

And that's pretty much all i found out about the bug. Happy fixing!

I tested this on an engineer when the patch hit. It's a minor visual bug but nothing that actually affects gameplay. Actual range and damage aren't affected by the bugged buff after logging out/relogging.

Ok thanks, i understood it differently: if someone relogs a different character, while staying in the same area, the range etc. is affected and it could be exploited for RvR.

Oh no, it's just a visual bug, i made sure to search it thoroughly. The only real reason i posted this was because the magus is a pretty obscure class and the chances of someone finding it and reporting it are pretty slim.
